USA: I was shocked USA went to the Finals after a very poor start in the Confederations Cup. I still think they got lucky as they barely qualified for the knock out round.
Then came a crucial match against Mexico. USA got stomped in the Gold Cup Finals on US soil. USA was better but still lost against Mexico in the World Cup Qualifier. USA really needs to step it up if they wish to make any noise for the World Cup. I do not think USA has any chance to compete against the power teams like Spain, Germany or Brazil but hopefully we will have a respectful result.
Remember when USA beat Spain, I think we caught them off guard and Spain did not have all their power house players. I do question Bradley's selections. Many times I wonder if the is the right Coach. USA vs. El Salvador: I was pleased with the win. USA needs to finish off the plays. There were several passes (with scoring opportunities) but the other player could not finish the play. USA plays against Trinidad Tobago. USA should win even in Port of Spain.
Costa Rica: Slipping and need to rebound quickly. They were shocked by Mexico at the Saprissa Stadium. Costa Rica really needs to put their game back together. Costa Rica has not had any results in the actual World Cup which hopefully they will have better results. They must qualify first. They went from 1st place to 4th. Costa Rica plays against El Salvador which I think they can win but it is in El Salvador so it will not be easy.
Argentina: They have something to worry about. If they do not win on September 9 against Paraguay, I strongly believe they need to make a coaching change. Paraguay will be a tough match. Especially in Paraguay. Maradona maybe an icon but they need a strong leader to get results. They had some big losses in the recent qualifiers.
Brazil: They are on fire but need to continue. Keep building on each game and continue the momentum into the World Cup. Brazil has qualified now they need to build.
Italy: I think they are on the decline. It will be tough to repeat as World Cup Champions but who knows. They have very talented players but maybe in the future they need to examine younger players.
Spain, Germany and Holland will be Europe's power houses. Let's see if they continue their trend.
I can not wait until the next round. It will be very exciting.
